Shelterbox
SRT Representative
Due to the disaster in Haiti where the government estimate of the death toll is over 300,000 people have lost their lives, we have been advised that Tom Henderson is unable to attend our conference. This is because ShelterBox has now deployed over 7,000 ShelterBoxes and disaster Relief Tents and a figure of over 10,000 ShelterBoxes is expected presenting Tom with a massive logistical problem. The previous largest deployment was 2000 boxes in Myanmar. This disaster is unprecedented.
BUT we will have an exciting presentation on Deployment of boxes with the SRT people, who have the personal experience of delivering these boxes. The struggles with logistics and the management of couriers with the added experience of seeing heart break everwhere. All of this combined with dealing with people who have lost everything. This session will be an intense and moving realisation of adversity.
This whole process highlighting a main goal of Tom Henderson being the help with diginity.
This session will be on Saturday afternoon and a must see.
Plese watch this space for updates of more to come.
Deputy Chairman of Beyond Blue
John believes that much can be done to alleviate the stigma experienced by people with mental illnesses. He believes the key to increased understanding is continual striving toward national awareness. As communities become better informed, those facing problems will be more likely to seek early intervention and crises will be less likely to occur. As a consequence of increased understanding, people with mental illnesses will be reassured and supported by compassionate behaviour from family, their peers, work mates and the general community.
John shall be speaking on Sunday morning.
